Volgograd State Technical University was founded in 1930 and is one of the largest universities in the south of Russia. The university employs about 1,100 teachers, including 3 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, three members of other state academies, 140 doctors of sciences, professors and 617 candidates of sciences, associate professors. The university enrolls about 18,000 students in 17 areas of undergraduate and 13 areas of magistracy, as well as 236 graduate students in 36 scientific specialties. The university has 7 doctoral dissertation councils of the Higher Attestation Commission of Russia. Since 1962, the university has been training specialists for foreign countries. Currently, about 1000 foreign citizens study at the university, of which 200 are studying at the preparatory faculty.
