Queen Margaret's school

Queen Margaret's is led by Head Sue Baillie. Sue brings a wealth of experience from her 27-year teaching career having worked as Pastoral Director, Second Deputy Head, and Head of History & Politics, giving her extensive senior leadership experience.

Queen Margaret's is an all-girls school in Yorkshire, welcoming students aged 11-18. Awarded 'Excellent' across all categories in our recent Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) we provide a flexible structure which includes places for day girls, flexi boarders and full boarders with hours to suit modern, busy families. We work with you to provide a safe, structured and stimulating environment where your daughter will thrive. As an all-girls school, QM is ideally positioned to educate, inspire and nurture the girls of today, who will be the leaders of tomorrow.

In Queen Margaret’s school, every girl has a voice. Curricula are tailored and timetables are personalised for each student and all are given opportunities to develop and excel. Our girls can captain the Debating team, choose to study Physics or be part of a Netball team. Students enjoy not only equal opportunity but every opportunity. All activities are open to them; they participate, influence and lead - there are no gender stereotypes here.

On the fondly-named Main Street, you will find our cottage accommodation: Park Gates, Covers, Gardeners, Stables, Red House Cottage, Taylour Cottage and Carr House. All housing single bedrooms with washbasins and mirrors, these are a popular choice for conference accommodation.

  • Red House - Beds: 42

Starting life as the Escrick Park farmhouse, Red House has maintained its cosy, welcoming feel whilst providing a great base on campus for younger groups. Gather around the upright piano in the sitting room, host a picnic outside on Red House Lawn or finish the day with a cup of cocoa warmed up on the AGA. Dormitories feature a ‘bunk bed’ design and range in size from four to six beds.

  • Winifred Holtby House (Winnie’s) - Beds: 64

A modern, spacious building with matching four-bed dormitories across three floors, Winnie’s can host groups of up to 64 in their entirety. Each dorm sits adjacent to its own private study room, whilst the ground floor common room and kitchen leave plenty of space for socialising and fun on an evening.

  • Cloisters - Beds: 70

Cloisters is home to our twin bedroom accommodation; each room features two cabin beds with modern storage solutions and a beautiful view onto the gardens below. A fully equipped kitchen and living space downstairs are accessible to all rooms in this building, which is located in the centre of the School campus.
