Khojand State University (KSU) was founded in 1932 and was originally called Lelinabad State Pedagogical University named after S. Kirov. Khojand State University is the second most prestigious higher educational institution in the Republic of Tajikistan. The university has full-time, part-time and distance learning programs at 18 faculties in 80 areas.

Currently, the university employs 800 teachers and trainers, including 47 doctors of science, professors; 354 candidates of sciences, associate professors and 200 senior teachers and 199 teachers.

The total number of university students is 20,822 people, of which 9796 people are in the full-time department; 11,026 people are studying in absentia.
